HOUSTON -- The Houston Dynamo announced Tuesday the acquisition of Honduras international Alberth Elis on a 12-month loan from Mexico’s Monterrey.

The 20-year-old had joined Monterrey from Honduras’ Olimpia on August 25, 2016, and played in five games.

“I have had the opportunity to follow Alberth for the past three years within CONCACAF tournaments, with the under-20 national team for Honduras, in the pre-Olympic tournament where he was the top scorer, and with his national team and his club team,” said Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera. “He’s a very fast, agile forward; and he can play on the left side, as a center forward or on the right side. We’re bringing in a forward who’s very young, but has a lot of talent, a lot of speed, and he’s hungry for the possibility that he has in Houston and in MLS.”

Elis has scored three goals in 15 appearances for Honduras, since making his debut as an 18-year-old in 2014. He was the joint-top scorer at the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship with four goals, and has competed in the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup (4 games/0 goals) and the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup (2 games/goals). The former Real España youth product also scored four goals in the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship and one goal in the 2013 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.

With Olimpia (61 games/25 goals), he was selected as recipient of the 2015/16 Scotiabank Best Young Player Award, playing in four games and scoring two goals.
