TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Hernan Medford will open his first camp as the head coach of Honduras on Monday with 23 players, including seven from Real España, the club he managed previously.
The three-day gathering in Tegucigalpa will focus on preparations for the upcoming Copa Centroamericana, Central America’s championship for national teams that doubles as a qualifying competition for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Costa Rican extended invitations to five players with no experience with the full national team – forward Bryan Rochez; midfielder Juan Josué Rodríguez; defenders Jonathan Paz and Israel Fonseca; plus, goalkeeper Yul Arzú.
Rochez, 19, netted 20 goals during the 2013/14 Honduran league campaign and tallied three times in the recently completed Central American qualifying tournament for the 2015 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.
Honduras, which competed in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, will commence Copa Centroamericana play on September 3 against Belize in Washington, D.C.
