ANTIGUA, Guatemala – Nelson Enrique Miranda scored two goals to lift Guatemala to a 3-0 win over visiting Nicaragua in an international friendly on Thursday at the Estadio Pensativo.

The match was part of both teams’ preparations for the 2014 Copa Centroamericana, which will be held next month in the United States.

Playing its first game under new head coach Ivan Sopegno, Guatemala went ahead 1-0 in the 25th minute.  Jose Contreras netted the opener after Marvin Ceballos capitalized on a Nicaraguan error to ignite the sequence.

Miranda, who found the back of the net on August 7 in Comunicaciones’ 5-0 victory over Puerto Rico Bayamon FC in the CONCACAF Champions League, entered the field in the 68th minute and had a major impact.

The 23-year-old out the game out of reach with strikes in the 73rd and 80th minutes.

After snapping a 13-game winless streak, Guatemala will look for a second straight triumph, when it hosts Cuba on August 23.
