HERNING, Denmark -- Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland announced Friday that it has brought in Costa Rica international Marco Ureña on a four-month loan from Kuban Krasnodar with an option to buy.
Ureña joined Kuban in 2011, but had not secured regular playing time with the Russian club.
“He is a good player that we get to the club and it is very gratifying that the agreement is in place,” said Midtjylland sports director Claus Steinlein. “We have been looking for a quick striker to complement our other attackers, and with Ureña we get a new dimension in the squad who can make us more versatile.”
The 24-year-old, who started his professional career with Alajuelense in 2008, appeared in four games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and scored in a 3-1 win over Uruguay.
In addition to World Cup heroics, Ureña was joint-top scorer at the 2011 Copa Centroamericana with three goals and added three more at that year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
