PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago – Trinidad & Tobago will travel to Nicaragua on Christmas night with a 21-man squad for a pair of international friendlies against the host nation on December 27 and 30, it was announced Saturday.

The roster is a mix of youth and experience highlighted by 13 players competing in the TT Pro League, including DirecTV W Connection defender Daneil Cyrus, who appeared in each of the Savonetta Boys’ four games in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.

“I believe that locally we have a lot of good players and I am looking forward already to the future,” recently-named head coach Tom Saintfiet told TTFA Media.  “After the league I think there could be a huge opportunity to train a lot with the local players to make a better understanding for the needs of international football, to improve here and there and to work longer together

“Locally there are a lot of players with the potential to go abroad and to defend their country and I hope they take this opportunity,”

T&T is using the friendlies as preparation for 2016/17 Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup playoff for fifth-place encounters at home against Suriname (January 4, 2017) and Haiti (January 8, 2017).

The last meeting between T&T and visiting Nicaragua ended scoreless in a friendly on October 13, 2015, at Hasely Crawford Stadium.
