St. Lucia (pictured) has advanced to the second round of the 2014 Caribbean Cup.
CASTRIES, St. Lucia – After his team went unbeaten in three Caribbean Cup first-round matches, St. Lucia head coach Francis Lastic is delighted with its progress.
In finishing as runner-up to Group 6 host St. Kitts & Nevis, the St. Lucians went unbeaten with a 2-1-0 record. The table-topping positions earned places for both in next month’s second round.
“Our intentions were to move up to the second stage and we were successful at that,” said Lastic, who made a point to praise the performances of the defense, which conceded only one goal. “The team played very well. The guys executed according to plan, was disciplined, played attractive football and we got the job done.”
St. Lucia’s upcoming task will be even more challenging, when it faces off against host Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua & Barbuda and the Dominican Republic, October 8-12, for final-round berths.
“Looking ahead, we will be taking it game by game and work very hard to qualify,” expressed Lastic, adding that he doesn’t expect any squad changes prior to the next round.
