GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- Guyana head coach Jamaal Shabazz named a 20-man roster for his team’s third-round opener in the 2016/17 Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup on Saturday at Suriname.

The biennial competition doubles as Caribbean qualifying for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, a tournament in which the Guyanese have never earned a berth. Each of the four, third-round group winners will seal places in the Confederation event.

Guyana reached the third round by capturing first place in its first-round group with a 2W-0D-0L record and going 1-0-1 in the second round to finish as runner-up to Curacao.

Of the 13 players accounting for Guyana’s 17 goals, seven were selected for the current roster. Anthony Abrams, Trayon Bobb and Dwight Peters are the Golden Jaguars’ joint-top scorers with two goals each and the trio made the short trip to Suriname. Remarkably, none of the 13 scorers have scored in more than one match.

After facing the Surinamese, Guyana will host defending champion Jamaica on October 11 in Leonora.
