ST. JOHN’S, Antigua & Barbuda – Antigua & Barbuda has chosen 14 overseas-based players for the final round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup, which will be played November 11-18, 2014, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association announced Thursday.
The selection is highlighted by the inclusion of high-scoring forward Peter Byers, the squad’s most experienced player. The 30-year-old has scored two goals in this year’s competition and has struck 10 times in 17 all-time World Cup qualifiers.
Defender Quinton Griffith, who plays for the Charleston Battery in the United States, has retained the captaincy.
Antigua advanced to the Caribbean finals after topping Group 5 in the first round and finishing as runner-up to Trinidad & Tobago in the second round. England-based midfielder Keiran Murtagh has led the way with three goals.
The Benna Boys will open their Group B campaign on November 12 against Haiti at the Montego Bay Sports Complex and then tackle host Jamaica (November 14) and Martinique (November 16).
The top four teams in the Caribbean Cup automatically qualify for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, while the fifth-place team will face Honduras in a playoff for the last berth.
