U.S. GK Guzan wins Aston Villa honors

BIRMINGHAM, England - United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan continued his outstanding season in the English Premier League on Tuesday by winning the Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Year awards at the Aston Villa end-of-season dinner.

The former Chivas USA netminder topped forwards Christian Benteke (18 goals) and Andreas Weimann (7 goals) to gain recognition of his contributions to the club this campaign from teammates and fans alike.

Guzan, who joined Aston Villa in 2008, has started 34 of 36 games league games, winning six man-of-the-match polls and finishing as runner-up on five occasions.

After flirting with relegation most of the season, Aston Villa has gone unbeaten in six of its last eight games to climb into 13th place in the table (five points above safety).

The 28-year-old has appeared in seven career World Cup Qualifying matches for the U.S., going the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 at Mexico this past March.
