TAMPA, Florida -- Turks & Caicos Islands international Billy Forbes was named Thursday as the United Soccer League’s player of the month.
Forbes played a vital role in leading San Antonio FC to a 6W-1D-0L record through April. It marked the first-ever time that the USL presented the award.
The 26-year-old striker struck for six goals and registered three assists, becoming the catalyst for the league's most dangerous attack in the early part of the season.
“It means a lot to see my hard work pay off,” said Forbes. "This is the first award of its kind and I’m honored to be named player of the month, but it wouldn’t be possible without my teammates and the coaching staff. At the end of the day it is not just me, it’s a team effort.”
Through Saturday’s 1-0 win over the visiting Sacramento Republic, San Antonio FC leads all USL teams in points (22) and has tallied a league-best 19 goals.
“The team had a very good first month of the season, remaining undefeated,” SAFC head coach Darren Powell commented. “The whole team played well and Billy has been able to work hard, score goals and collect assists as well. The team is really pleased for Billy to get this award.”
Forbes scored one goal in two matches for Turks & Caicos in CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
