ST. GEORGE, Grenada – The Grenada Football Association (GFA) announced Thursday that Trinidad & Tobago international Ahkeela Mollon has accepted an invitation to take part in its festivities for the first annual CONCACAF Women’s Football Day.
As part of Saturday’s celebrations at the National Cricket Stadium, the GFA will conduct a 3v3 tournament for primary and secondary schools, as well as a football skills challenge.
Malaika Church, women’s development officer for the GFA, was elated that Mollon agreed to visit the island.
“The Association is very honored to have one the region’s finest female players a part of its event,” said Church. “Ahkeela is definitely an example of the direction women’s football is taking and she is an inspiration to our women in the sport.”
The 30-year-old Mollon was the first Trinidadian woman to earn a professional contract in Europe, competing in Sweden (Kvarnsveden IK, Djurgarden) and Iceland (Afturelding). She also played for University of South Carolina and the W-League’s Charlotte Lady Eagles, both in the United States, plus Trinidad's Central FC.
