SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – Alianza FC announced Tuesday that it signed El Salvador international Jose Isidro Gutierrez to a three-year contract. The 24-year-old midfielder joins the San Salvador-based side after less than seven months with Honduras’ Motagua.
The acquisition is seen as key to Alianza’s efforts to qualify for the 2014 Clausura playoffs. It finished in a tie for fourth with Isidro Metapan in the current Apertura, but lost 1-0 in an elimination game to determine which would progress to the semifinals.
Gutierrez appeared in five World Cup qualifiers for Brazil 2014, scoring in a pair of 2-2 draws with Costa Rica and Guyana. He also played in the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament, helping the Cuscatlecos to the semifinals, where they fell to eventual runner-up Honduras 3-2 after extra time.
