DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Russia scored four unanswered goals in the first period to defeat the United States 5-1 on Wednesday in the second match for each at the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2014.

The win lifted the Russians into a tie for first-place with Brazil in Group B.  They will meet in a Thursday showdown to determine the group’s winner and runner-up.  While both are already assured of semifinal places, the Americans have been eliminated from contention.  The CONCACAF champion, however, still have three more games to contest, starting with one against Japan, also on Thursday.

Reigning World Cup champion Russia came out of the gate quickly with Dmitry Shishin netting twice in the opening ten minutes.

It wasn’t until early in the second period, when the U.S. scored its only goal as Yuri Morales made it 4-1.

Kirill Romanov completed the scoreline in the game’s final minute.
