Klinsmann reveals U.S. roster for Bosnia friendly

CHICAGO – United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann unveiled a 23-player roster on Monday for a training camp in advance of an August 14 away friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo.

With the exception defender Brad Evans and forward Eddie Johnson, both with U.S. club Seattle Sounders, the roster is composed entirely of European- and Mexican-based players.

“This is another opportunity to give ourselves a benchmark against a great opponent and one of the top teams in Europe,” said Klinsmann. “Our European-based players are just getting started with their seasons and this gives them a chance to get going a couple weeks before our big World Cup Qualifiers. We’re also excited to bring some new faces into the Senior Team and have them start to become part of the group.”

The U.S. is currently riding a record-setting 11-match winning streak that began June 2 with a 4-3 victory over Germany.  The streak includes three wins in World Cup Qualifying and six straight victories en route to the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship last month.

A total of seven players on the selection for Bosnia were part of that Gold Cup-winning squad: Alejandro Bedoya, Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona, Mix Diskerud, Eddie Johnson, Michael Orozco Fiscal and Michael Parkhurst.

The first-ever encounter with Bosnia is the only match for the U.S. before the resumption of 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying with matches at Costa Rica on September 6 in San Jose and home against Mexico four days later at a sold-out Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
