OLIVEIRA DE AZEMEIS, Portugal – El Salvador international Nelson Bonilla has joined Oliveirense for the 2017/18 season, the Portuguese second-division side announced Thursday.
The 26-year-old forward played the first half of 2017 on loan at Gaziantep (Turkey) from Portugal’s Nacional.
Bonilla helped El Salvador to a third place finish in the 2017 Copa Centroamericana and a berth in this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he had a goal and two assists. He was the Cuscatlecos’ top scorer in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with five goals.
After starting his professional career with Salvadoran power Alianza in 2011, Bonilla went on to play in Romania (Viitorul Constanta, 2014-15) and Azerbaijan (Azira, 2015-16).
