MANAUS, Brazil – Costa Rica is in Brazil for the Copa Caixa, a four-team women’s tournament to be played entirely at the Arena da Amazonia from December 7-18.

The Ticas will open against the host nation on Wednesday, before facing Italy (December 11) and Russia (December 14). They will then play for either third place or the title on December 18.

"It will be a great tournament,” said head coach Amelia Valverde. “We will be in a city and play in a stadium that was the site of the last World Cup, which will add to the team’s experience. Additionally, the opponents are important selections.”

Valverde called up 20 players for the season-ending trip, including forward Karla Villalobos, who scored three goals in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship earlier this year. She also netted twice in the inaugural UNCAF Women’s Inter-Club Championship as her club Moravia captured the title.
