Both Club America (6W-6D-1L, 24 points, +11 GD) and Chivas Guadalajara (3-6-4, 15, -3 GD) picked up wins prior to their respective Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League semifinals. Las Aguilas downed city rivals Cruz Azul 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Mateus Uribe and Cecilio Dominguez, while a Rodolfo Pizarro brace powered the Rebano Sagrado to a 2-1 away win at Morelia.
CAVALIER, TIVOLI GARDENS GOALLESS IN PLAYOFF OPENER
Jamaica’s Red Stripe Premier League playoffs opened with a cagey 0-0 draw between Cavalier and Tivoli Gardens on Sunday in Trench Town. The result means Tivoli Gardens are unbeaten in four matches this season versus Cavalier. The two sides will square off on Wednesday in the second leg, with the winner advancing to face Portmore United in the semifinals.
TORONTO FC RETURN TO WIN COLUMN
Ahead of their SCCL semifinal first leg versus Club America, Toronto FC (1W-0D-2L, 3 points, -1GD) picked up its first victory of the 2018 MLS season with a 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Friday in Toronto. Jozy Altidore banged in a first-half brace before Tosaint Ricketts sealed the three points with a second-half stoppage time goal.
In a wild affair on Saturday, fellow SCCL semifinalists New York Red Bulls (2-0-2, 6, +5) fell 4-3 at Orlando City. The Red Bulls travel to Guadalajara on Wednesday to face Chivas in their semifinal first leg.
MIREBALAIS STAY TOP IN HAITI
Mirebalais (6W-2D-1L, 20 points, +11 GD) remain the top team in Haiti’s Ligue Haitienne thanks to a 2-0 win over FICA on Saturday. Level on points and separated by just five on goal difference is second-place Capoise (6-2-1, 20, +6), who downed Sud-Est 2-0 on Sunday. Valencia (5-2-2, 17, +4) also powered up the table to third-place thanks to a 2-0 triumph versus Baltimore.
