CONCACAF mourns the loss of Dr. Rudy Gittens

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dr. Rudy Gittens’ family on the unfortunate passing of the  legendary sports medicine physician.


The football family has lost a tireless pioneer whose contribution to physical and mental health, injuries and safety helped steer the beautiful game through its growth and expansion. However, our foremost loss is of a greatly esteemed human being.


Dr. Gittens was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007 and was also a member of the CONCACAF Hall of Fame. He led the Canadian Soccer Association Medical Committee for more than 20 years and served in several sports medical committees and FIFA World Cups.


With more than four decades dedicated to football and many honors crowning his achievements, his years of leadership at the helm of international sports medicine and his commitment to the game will remain as a legacy that will surely provide guidance for generations to come.


We hope his family and friends may find consolation in the fervent admiration and expression of condolence from the entire football community.Dr. Gittens will be remembered as an inspirational role model.
