One of the region’s most outstanding competitors for nearly 15 years, Clint Dempsey appeared in 11 games for the United States in 2017 (5 goals, 4 assists), helping it to sixth CONCACAF Gold Cup title (1 goal, 3 assists).  In 29 matches during the 2017 Major League Soccer regular season, the 34-year-old scored 12 goals and contributed five assists.  That goal haul marked his second highest total through eight seasons of MLS play (15 in 2014).  On the strength of impressive production, Dempsey earned the 2017 MLS Comeback Player of the Year after an irregular heartbeat kept him out of action for the second half of 2016.
