Real España is making its third appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League by virtue of winning the 2013 Honduran Apertura on penalty kicks, 3-1, over Real Sociedad after the two-legged final ended at 3-3. The Aurinegros have won 11 Honduran domestic championships, including five consecutive from 1974-1978. The team also was runner-up to Monterrey from Mexico in the 1993 CONCACAF Cup Winners’ Cup. Goalkeeper Luis Lopez, midfielders Mario Martinez and Edder Delgado, plus and forward Carlos Costly all competed for Honduras in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Forward Bryan Rochez, 19, scored 20 total goals over the 2013/14 Honduran league season. Coached by Hernán Medford, Real España was unable to get out of the Group Stage in each of its previous two CCL appearances. It has been drawn into Group 1 with Pachuca (Mexico) and Municipal (Guatemala).
