With 28 Honduran championships and a pair of CONCACAF Champions Cup titles (1972, 1988), Olimpia can stake a claim as one of the top sides in Central America. Along with El Salvador’s Isidro Metapan, Olimpia is one of two clubs to qualify for all seven editions of the CONCACAF Champions League. The Lions advanced to the 2010/11 quarterfinals, before falling to Saprissa of Costa Rica, 3-1 on aggregate. In the 2013/14 edition, Olimpia needed win at Sporting Kansas City on the last day of Group 2 play to progress, only to fall one point short (8-7) after a 0-0 draw. Goalkeepers Noel Valladares and Donis Escober, defender Brayan Beckeles and midfielder Luis Garrido were on Honduras’ roster at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Olimpia will face the Portland Timbers (USA) and Alpha United (Guyana) in Group 5.
