Now that it is an established women’s contender in Central America, Guatemala will look to take the next step in its development at the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.
It secured a place in the CWOQ for a second time by finishing as runner-up to Costa Rica in Central American qualifying. After opening with a narrow 2-1 loss to the Ticas, the Chapinas went on to defeat Nicaragua (2-1) and El Salvador (2-0). Coralia Monterroso and Marilyn Rivera led the way with two goals each.
In the 2012 CWOQ, Guatemala posted a win and two losses in three games, earning a 6-0 victory over the Dominican Republic.
The Guatemalans lost each of their three games in the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, with Maria Monterroso netting the only goal in a 2-1 loss to Trinidad & Tobago to close out Group A play.
