TOKYO - Mexico will face host Japan in Miyagi to highlight the opening day of play at the Under-20 Women's World Cup, Monday's draw for the event revealed.
Mexico also will face New Zealand and Switzerland in Group A while two-time defending CONCACAF champion the United States will play Ghana, China and reigning World Cup champion Germany in Group D.
CONCACAF's other qualifier, Canada, was drawn with 2008 champion North Korea in Group B, which also includes Argentina and Norway.
Monday's draw ceremony at the Conrad Hotel in Tokyo was conducted by FIFA's women's competition head Tatjana Haenni with the assistance of four members of Japan's 2011 Women's World Cup champion: Homare Sawa, Kozue Ando, Azusa Iwashimizu and Saki Kumagai.
The U-20 Women's World Cup, originally designated to be played in Uzbekistan until FIFA withdrew it for logistical concerns, will begin August 19 and be played in Miyagi, Kobe, Saitama, Hiroshima and Tokyo before concluding in the capital on September 8.
