BOCHUM, Germany -- Costa Rica fell victim to two goals from second-half substitute Marina Makanza and were eliminated from the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup today with a 2-0 loss to France in Bochum.

Unlike in their opening match against powerful Germany, the Ticas were able to assert themselves more forcefully and created chances through possession. In the 29th minute, Ana Gabriela Aguilar looked to take advantage of a mistake by defender Adeline Rousseau, but her shot from 13 yards went over the crossbar.

Though France became more active after the interval, it was Costa Rica that had the best chance to go in front. In the 57th, French goalkeeper Laetitia Philippe fouled Raquel Rodriguez Vasquez inside the box. Tica captain Katherine Alvarado, who scored from the spot against the Germans, had her attempt saved this time.

Just minutes later, Makanza entered and, then, changed the game. She struck for goals in the 67th and 83rd minutes, sealing Costa Rica's fate with one game left to play.

The Central American side will complete its World Cup campaign with a final Group A encounter against Colombia nest Tuesday.
