GUATEMALA CITY -Andi Sullivan and Sarah Robinson scored 2½ minutes apart midway through the second half and spark the United States to a 5-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, moving the Americans within sight of the semifinals at the CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship.
The United States, which beat the Bahamas 10-0 on Thursday, again dominated play but managed only Emily Bruder's lone goal until the 65th minute, frustrated by a Trinidad back line as well as its own inability to get a final touch.
After Sullivan and Robinson added the cushion, Summer Green scored her sixth of the tournament and second-half substitute Joanna Boyles tacked on another in injury time to complete the one-sided affair.
The result moved the Americans atop Group B with six points and left Trinidad with little chance of advancing with a second loss in as many games.
Bruder's goal in the 20th minute capitalized on a dominant spell, but despite overwhelming possession and chances, the United States sent its shots high or wide, or scuffed the last kick.
While sometimes stuffing the penalty area, Trinidad's chances came sporadically. Jonelle Warrick skipped a shot from 22 meters off the top of the crossbar in the 41st, and Donika Murray had a clean look from inside the area but had U.S. keeper Jane Campbell block her shot out for a corner in the 63rd.
American coach Albertin Montoya made two changes from its starting lineup against the Bahamas, sitting Lauren Kaskie and Margaret Purce, who had three goals in the opener.
Trinidad manager Even Pellerud had to compensate for the injury to Victoria Swift, who broke her nose in a collision with Cynthia Pineda in the third minute of Thursday's loss to Mexico but played into second-half injury time. She will miss the rest of the tournament.
Green, who had five goals against the Bahamas, had the United States' first effort in the fourth minute, but it was Bruder who put it ahead.
She took a ball toward the penalty area, pivoted 270 degrees to her right and dribbled parallel to the 18 before unleashing a left-footed drive off the underside the off the crossbar.
The Americans continued to control the possession but didn't get a second until Campbell sent a goal kick from outside her penalty area that bounced over the Trinidad defense. Sullivan ran onto it, touched it into the area and slid a low left-footed shot under Trinidad keeper Lebrisca Phillip.
Robinson put the United States more at ease, taking a short pass from Bruder, touching it over the 18 and hitting a shot that Phillip was able to get her hands to, but not stop from bounding across the line.
Green added hers in the 86th and Boyles completed the scoring in 93rd, driving a right-footed effort from 30 meters past Phillip.
The Americans will face Mexico in their group finale on Monday while Trinidad will face Caribbean rival Bahamas.
