NEW YORK - Mexico's Lucila Venegas, who officiated at last year's Pan American Games as well as CONCACAF Women's World Cup qualifying in 2010, has been selected among 20 referees and assistants that will work the CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship, the confederation said.
Besides the 30-year-old Venegas, who will referee Group A that includes Guatemala, Panama, Canada and Jamaica, 41-year-old veteran Dianne Ferreira-James of Guyana also was chosen. Ferreira-James, who refereed at the U-20 Women's Championship and Olympic women's qualifying finals earlier this year, will be assigned to Group B with Mexico, the United States, Trinidad & Tobago and the Bahamas.
The U-17 Women's Championship is set for May 2-12 in Guatemala City, with three teams qualifying for the U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan, September 22-October 13.
