Having clearly established itself as Central America's leading women's team, Costa Rica is looking to break into the next tier with Mexico to contend for a senior CONCACAF women's crown. "Las Ticas" breezed through Central American qualifying, winning all four games by a combined 20-4, including a 5-2 victory over Guatemala. It has lost to the United States in the semifinals the past two times at the Olympic qualifying finals, and Canada in the semifinals of the 2010 Women's World Cup Qualifying finals. It has never beaten either in 15 career meetings, and only scored twice - both against Canada. It has lost all seven games against Mexico, but has a better goal difference.
