Appearing in Vancouver marks only the second time a women's team from the Dominican Republic has qualified for the finals of a CONCACAF championship, and the first since its U-20 side played at the 2004 finals in Canada. It has climbed to 88th in the most recent monthly FIFA Rankings, still short of its record best of 81st in March 2009, but nearly 20 places higher than it was in April 2010 (106). The Dominican Republic reached Vancouver with the best record in Caribbean qualifying, winning all three games. It's defense, anchored by 26-year-old goalkeeper Heidy Salazar, did not allow a goal.
