CANCUN, Mexico -- Two spots in next year's FIFA Women's World Cup finals are on the line, when the semifinals of CONCACAF Women's World Cup qualifying take place tonight at Estadio Beto Avila in Cancun, Mexico. In the opener, Canada, the Group A winner, takes on Group B runner-up Costa Rica. An encounter between the USA, which captured the top spot in Group B, and Group B second-place finisher Mexico, closes out the evening.

This is the fifth meeting between the USA and Mexico in the finals of a CONCACAF women's championship/World Cup qualifying competition. The Americans have won all four previous games, scoring 26 goals and conceding none.

This is their second-consecutive meeting in the semifinals of this competition. Four years ago at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, Abby Wambach scored both goals in the USA's 2-0 victory.

The USA comes into this semifinal after taking the Group B title with wins over Costa Rica (4:0), Guatemala (9:0) and Haiti (5:0).

Mexico finished second in Group A with triumphs over Guyana (7:2) and Trinidad & Tobago (2:0), but were beaten by Canada (0:3).

The Stars & Stripes have won all 19 of their Women's World Cup qualifying matches dating back to 1991 and have only surrendered three goals in those games.

The Tricolor's eight-game unbeaten streak at home in World Cup qualifying matches (includes FIFA Playoffs) came to an end in the loss against Canada on Tuesday.

Abby Wambach of the USA is the tournament's top scorer with six goals, followed by Mexico's Maribel Dominguez with five.
