SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras - It's been a busy week for Honduran midfielder Luis Garrido.

In the midst of a whirlwind of activity for his country, the talented young Catracho star has set out on a new chapter in his professional career, agreeing with Serbian club Red Star Belgrade on a six-month loan deal with an option for a permanent move due this summer.

"It's great to have finally moved abroad," Garrido said before Honduran training on Monday at the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula. "We know it's never easy, we take it little by little.

This is just the start, and I feel like Europe is where I need to be."

But while a move to Europe might be every player's dream, this particular adventure has come at an awkward time for Garrido, who could well start Wednesday's vital World Cup qualifier against the United States.

Garrido played a vital role for Luis Fernando Suarez's team in achieving the runner-up spot at the 2013 Central American Cup just over a week ago in Costa Rica.

The 22-year-old then flew out to Belgrade to tidy up matters with his new club, before returning to Central America this weekend for the national team's opener in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

"Now it's time to put the national team ahead of the club," he said Monday. "It was a long trip, but it's done, and now I'm here, ready to play."

The midfielder was not alone in journeying from the Old Continent, however. Honduras called in a total of six Europe-based players for the U.S. match, including Greece-based Carlo Costly, who was only scheduled to arrive Monday night.

Garrido, who spent has entire first-division career in Honduras with Olimpia, has appeared in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the 2012 Olympic Games in London and two World Cup qualifiers for Brazil 2014.
