LUQUE, Paraguay - Pablo Aguilar scored twice in the second half, including a finale in the 91st minute, to lift Paraguay to a 3-1 victory over Guatemala in an international friendly on Wednesday.
The match came hours after the Guatemalan federation announced on its website that manager Ever Hugo Almeida would leave the team, possibly to return to Olimpia in his native Paraguay.
It was the second meeting in less than three months between the two sides and extended Guatemala's winless streak against the South American side to 10 matches dating back to their first meeting in 1965.
Luis Caballero gave Paraguay the lead in the 37th and Aguilar doubled the advantage 14 minutes into the second half. Minor Lopez scored his second goal of the year for Guatemala in the 87th to get "Los Chapines" within 2-1, but Aguilar restored the two-goal lead in injury time.
The loss was the second straight 3-1 defeat by Guatemala, which was beaten by the United States on October 16 to be eliminated from World Cup qualifying.
Guatemala, which drew 3-3 with Paraguay in August, is next scheduled to face Nicaragua, Belize and Costa Rica in the Copa Centroamericana in January.
