TORREON, Mexico - Mexico completed its perfect run through Group B of the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, ending El Salvador's dreams with a 2-0 victory Tuesday night.

Oribe Peralta and Javier Hernández scored in the second half to hand Mexico its sixth win as many games. The defeat at Estadio Corona - combined with Costa Rica's 7-0 victory over Guyana in San José - eliminated El Salvador from contention for a berth in the final round.

The two sides exchanged early chances as the Salvadorans attempted to keep their hopes of a place in the six-team "hexagonal" alive. Ángel Reyna and Denis Alas both saw efforts drift wide in the opening period as the action switched from end to end.

Mexico gradually assumed control as the first half progressed, with Reyna causing the most trouble down the right. But he dragged an effort wide and watched as Adrián Aldrete could not turn home his cross at the far post.

Aldo de Nigris and Andrés Guardado also failed to finish promising sequences before Reyna chipped over the bar to ensure the teams entered halftime 0-0.

Guardado continued the Mexican push after play resumed by poking wide after de Nigris sent him through down the left. De Nigris then squandered a chance provided by a powerful run by debutante Carlos Peña.

Peña also saw his appeal for a penalty denied mere moments after El Salvador goalkeeper Dagoberto Portillo tackled him in the penalty area.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 64th minutes with Reyna a key factor. He fed second-half substitute Elías Hernández with a short corner and overlapped to receive the return pass.

He created a meter of space and then drove a low shot toward the far post. Portillo did well to save the initial shot, but he could not prevent Peralta from tapping home the rebound from close to grab the lead.

Javier "Chicharito" Hernández doubled the advantage with five minutes remaining Elías Hernández prominently involved in the buildup.

Second-half substitute Héctor Herrera contributed to a goal in his first Mexico match by shuttling the ball out to Elías Hernández on the right flank.

Elias Hernández served an inviting cross into the middle for his prolific namesake to lash home the second goal and secure a sixth win in six attempts.

Mexico finished Group B play in top spot with 18 points in six games, while El Salvador concludes its World Cup qualifying campaign in third place with five points from six matches.
