MEXICO CITY - Leon scoring leader Carlos Pena received his first invitation to the full Mexican national team, highlighting the 22-man roster selected for El Tri's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Guyana and El Salvador.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who has four goals for third-place Leon, was joined by fellow first-time invitees Diego Reyes of America, Jorge Enriquez of Guadalajara and Hector Herrera of Pachuca - all members of Mexico's Olympic champion side.
Also rejoining the squad was 36-year-old midfielder Antonio Naelson - better known as Sinha, who has three goals for Mexican league-leader Toluca but has not played with the national team since a 2-0 victory over Serbia in a November friendly.
Mexico already has clinched its place in the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, known to many as the "hexoganal". It will face Guyana at Houston's BBVA Compass Stadium on October 12, a venue change requested by Guyana due to a stadium conflict with its regular venue in Providence.
El Tri will close out its semifinal round schedule against El Salvador in Torreon, Mexico, on October 16.
The team will travel to Houston on Monday to begin training for Guyana match.
