OTTAWA - Iain Hume returned to the Canadian national team for the country's remaining two games in the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, restored Thursday to manager Stephen Hart's 21-man roster after missing September's matches.
The 28-year-old striker, whose transfer on loan to Doncaster Rovers in England's third division wasn't completed until August 31, has three goals in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup and has one goal in four matches for Doncaster.
He was one of two changes - along with the addition of defender Mike Klukowski from Cyprus' Apoel -- from September's matches. Midfielder Dwayne De Rosario of D.C. United, who was injured on September 11 against Panama, and Toronto FC defender Ashtone Morgan were the two players replaced.
"We've played this campaign without Josh Simpson, now we have to go without Dwayne," Hart said on a conference call with reporters. "That's not only a potential goal scorer, but it hurts the attack. Other players are going to have to pick it up. I don't care where it comes from. We're going to have to pick up the slack from those players."
Canada has scored only two goals in four games in the semifinal round and is third in Group C, behind Honduras on goal difference with seven points. Panama leads the group with nine points.
The Canadians will host Cuba at Toronto's BMO Field on October 12 before finishing the semifinal round schedule four days later in Honduras. Only two teams will advance to the final , six-team "hexagonal" round of qualifying.
