PROVIDENCE, Guyana - Alvaro Saborio scored three times, twice in the first 26 minutes, to lead Costa Rica to a 4-0 victory over Guyana on Tuesday and resurrect its World Cup qualifying campaign.
Costa Rica, which allowed two goals after taking a 2-0 lead and settling for a draw on Friday at home against El Salvador, also got a goal from Joel Campbell, who scored for a second straight game.
Saborio, who has six goals for Real Salt Lake this season and had the opener for Costa Rica against El Salvador, scored in the 20th, 26th and 52nd minutes - the first and last with the help of Bryan Oviedo.
Campbell added his in the 77th as the Ticos ended a two-game winless streak in World Cup qualifying.
Guyana, beaten by Mexico 3-1 on Friday, lost a fourth straight game and the sixth time in seven matches, and remained at the bottom of Group B with zero points.
Costa Rica, which improved to four points, next will host Mexico on September 7 before travelling to face El Tri in Mexico four days later. Guyana will play at El Salvador on September 7 and then return home to play "Los Cuscatletcos".
