SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - El Salvador rallied from an early two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Costa Rica on Friday, spoiling the Ticos debut in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

Isidro Gutierrez scored in the 23rd minute and Osael Romero added the equalizer in the 54th as El Salvador ended a three-game winless streak against its Central American rival.

Costa Rica, which allowed an injury time equalizer in its last World Cup qualifier against the United States for a 2-2 draw that kept it from going to South Africa in 2010, took a 2-0 lead with goals by Alvaro Saborio in the 10th minute and Joel Campbell in the 15th.

The match was interrupted for 20 minutes after a lighting failure sent the crowd at Costa Rica's one-year-old Estadio Nacional into darkness in the 31st minute with the Ticos ahead 2-1.

El Salvador will return home to play Mexico, 3-1 winners over Guyana, on Tuesday, while Costa Rica will travel to Guyana for its next Group B encounter.
