CHICAGO - Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez scored two minutes into injury time and Mexico won for the second time in five days, beating Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 on Thursday as it continued its World Cup qualifying preparation.
Chicharito, a second-half substitute, scored with a lunging right foot inside the six and delighted the soaked partisan crowd of 51,240 at Chicago's Soldier Field.
Giovani Dos Santos also scored for Mexico, which has one more friendly -- Sunday against Brazil in the Dallas suburb of Arlington -- before beginning the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on June 8 against Guyana.
Chicharito reacted quickly to a bounding ball inside the Bosnia area after defender Strojan Vranes twice tried to clear a ball, the second time with a bicycle attempt but instead knocked it in front of his own goal.
El Tri, which made three changes from the Wales victory, started brightly, but at times struggled against the fast, physical Europeans on a drenched, windy field in rain and 51-degree Fahrenheit (11 Celsius) temperatures.
Mexico generated two corners before going ahead when Aldo De Nigris - who scored both goals Sunday in a 2-0 win over Wales -- ran down a long ball out of the back, turned inside defender Sanel Janic at the byline and hit a hard shot that goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was able to block at the left post.
But the rebound dropped in front, and Dos Santos reacted faster than defender Boris Pandza, pouncing on the loose ball to drive it into the far side netting from inside the six.
Bosnia immediately came to life, earning two quick corners, getting Edin Dezko free to send a header wide in the 14th and forcing Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa to tip a Dezko drive over the crossbar less than a minute later.
Mexico also had more moments, including Jorge Torres Nilo's shot that was deflected in front of the goal and Dos Santos sent the loose ball wide.
But Bosnia equalized in the 29th when Haris Medunjanin played a ball to Zvezdan 45 meters from goal and he let it go through his legs, catching Jesus Zavala, Hugo Ayala and Francisco Rodriguez by surprise. Dezko, who scored 14 goals for English Premier League champion Manchester City this season, ran onto to it uncontested, moved around Ochoa to the right and rolled the ball into the net.
Both sides had about an equal share of the possession in the second half, but Mexico had the best chance before Chicharito's goal.
Chicharito, who replaced Dos Santos in the 61st, was sent in alone on the left side of the area and after being denied by Begovic, had his second try on the rebound cleared off the line by Senad Lulic in the 80th.
Mexico won for the fourth time in five games, blemished only by a 2-0 loss to Colombia in February, while Bosnia lost for a fifth straight time.
