CONCACAF heavyweights Mexico and the United States earned friendly victories with second-choice rosters Wednesday night, giving managers Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre and Juergen Klinsmann opportunities to test reserve players in preparation for the resumption of World Cup qualifying in June.

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi scored his first international goal in his international debut, giving the United States a 1-0 victory over regional rival Panama in Panama City.

In Houston, Rafael Marquez Lugo and Oribe Peralta both scored in the final three minutes to rally Mexico to a 3-1 victory over Venezuela.

The U.S. victory was its second in five days, having beaten Venezuela 1-0 in Glendale, Arizona, and third straight after losing four of five under Klinsmann. The loss ended Panama's five-game winning streak, having last lost to Paraguay in September.

The United States went ahead in the ninth minute and then had to play the final 38 minutes with 10 men.

Zach Lloyd curled a right-footed free kick in the area that deflected off of Teal Burnbury's leg and bounded to Zusi, who volleyed it past Panamanian goalkeeper Luis Mejia from eight meters. The United States won for the eighth time in 11 meetings with two draws.

Panama had a pair of chances to equalize before the half-hour mark, but Carlos Rodriguez put a free kick from 26 meters well over the net in the 15th minute and Luis Renteria, who was played behind the United States defense, twice was denied by goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

The Real Salt Lake goalkeeper stopped the initial shot and scampered back to swat the ball away for Panama's first corner in the 26th minute.

Mejia also came up with two huge saves in the 30th minute, stopping Jermaine Jones' shot from 30 meters and then getting a right arm on Chris Wondolowski's headed rebound at the near post.

The United States was reduced to 10 men in the 52nd minute when Mexican referee Francisco Chacon sent off defender Geoff Cameron with a straight red card for a tackle from behind on Perez in a foot race toward the goal. The hosts couldn't capitalize on the free kick from the edge of the 18-yard box, as it deflected off a Panamanian at the wall.

Perez nearly equalized in the 78th minute, but his downward header at the back post was just wide of the net. Four minutes later, Gabriel Gomez teed up a shot from 30 meters that went well over the bar.

In Houston, Mexico rallied from an early second-half deficit in a match that marked the return of four of eight players suspended six months by team officials for reportedly inviting women to their hotel rooms at the Copa America in Argentina in July.

Israel Jimenez, Javier Cortes, Marco Fabian and Nestor Calderon, all expected to be part of Mexico's U-23 side that will attempt to qualify for the London Olympics, all played with Fabian involved in two of Mexico's goals.

Mexico had the better of play early, including Jesus Zavala's header off the crossbar in the 27th minute from Cortes' corner, but fell behind in the 52nd.

Miguel Mea Vitali sent a low corner to the near post and Edgar Greco was able to lose Zavala and then step inside Peralta to redirect the ball past goalkeeper Jesus Corona.

Carlos Salcido equalized in the 69th, taking what appeared to be a harmless ball from Fabian, but left unchallenged 35 meters from goal. Salcido took a touch toward the middle of the field and then unleashed a right-footed effort that appeared to deflect off two defenders before bouncing once and just inside the right post past Venezuelan keeper Jose Morales.

Corona kept the game tied in the 77th, diving low to palm away a right-footed shot through traffic from Jose Reyes.

It was enough to enable Mexico to resume its offensive push and finally convert in the 88th when Fabian's shot from the middle of the area was partially blocked by Morales, but Marquez Lugo ran onto the rebound to score from inside the six.

Peralta assured Mexico's win two minutes later, settling a mis-hit clearance attempt by Carlos Rivero at the 18 and driving a left-footed effort for the insurance.

All three CONCACAF teams will resume their World Cup preparation on February 29. The United States will travel to Genoa to play Italy, Panama will head to Paraguay and Mexico will play Colombia.
