KINGSTON, Jamaica - Haiti moved to the brink of qualifying for the CONCACAF Under-20 finals for the first time since 2007, beating Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 Wednesday night.
Horat Luckner Jr. and Samuel Pompee scored a goal apiece for Haiti, which climbed atop Group A at the Caribbean Championship finals with six points after two games. Trinidad fell into a second-place tie on three points with Puerto Rico, which beat Curacao 2-1 in the early game.
The top two teams in both groups along with the best third-place team will advance to the CONCACAF Championship in Puebla, Mexico, in February.
Luckner put Haiti ahead in the 31st minute and Pompee doubled the lead two minutes into the second half, converting a penalty after a foul by Alvin Jones.
In the early match, Michael Maria gave Curacao the lead in the 17th minute with his fourth goal in five games of Caribbean qualifying.
But Joseph Marrero - who played three games this past season with the Puerto Rico Islanders as well as the team's home CONCACAF Champions League match against Metapan - equalized in the 61st with a penalty. Four minutes later, Reid Strain scored the eventual winner.
Haiti will need only a draw when it faces Puerto Rico in their finale on Friday, while Trinidad will play Curacao.
