ARMENIA, Colombia - Marvin Ceballos scored with nine minutes remaining and Guatemala beat Croatia 1-0 on Saturday to claim the last berth in the round-of-16 at the Under-20 World Cup.

Despite having been outscored 11-0 in its two previous matches, Guatemala finished in third place in Group D with three points, enough to edge out New Zealand (two points) and Panama (one point), which finished third in their respective groups.

Costa Rica also advanced despite losing its group finale, 3-0 to Ecuador in Pereira, finishing third in Group C. The results gave CONCACAF three of its four teams in the knockout round, beginning with Mexico, which will face Cameroon on Tuesday.

Guatemala will play Portugal, while Costa Rica will face host Colombia, both also on Tuesday.

"Los Chapines" beat Croatia despite surrendering 60 percent of the possession and being outshot 11-9.

In Pereira, Costa Rica fell behind in the second minute when Edson Montano put in the rebound of a Brayan De La Torre's blocked shot, and two more by Marlon de Jesus in the 13th and 69th secured the loss.

"It's a difficult time for the team, and for me, since I am responsible for the team," Costa Rica coach Ronald Gomez said. "I'm responsible for this defeat. There are not many things to say about it.

"This defeat is mainly due to the fact that we went down a goal after less than two minutes. They took advantage of our very bad start and when you go down a goal so early in the game, it kills the will of the boys."
