CHICAGO - Wilmer Cabrera will leave his post as coach of the U.S. under-17 team at the end of January, the U.S. federation announced Tuesday, the Americans' fifth change at the head of one of their youth teams in eight months.

The 44-year-old native Colombian was appointed U-17 coach in 2007, guiding the side into the second round at both the 2009 and 2011 World Cups.

His departure follows that of Thomas Rongen as coach of the U-20 team, Mike Matkovich as manager of the U-18 side and Jim Barlow of the U-15s. Manny Schellscheidt , who supervised the U-14 program, also left.

All of the changes have come since former international Claudio Reyna was appointed youth technical director of the U.S. Soccer Federation in April.

"After several discussions with Wilmer, we agreed that parting ways at this time was the best way forward," USSF President Sunil Gulati said in a release.

Before he leaves, Cabrera will coach the side on an upcoming tour of Turkey, the federation said.
