MORELIA, Mexico - Julio Gomez scored with five minutes remaining and Mexico became the first team to clinch a berth in the second round of the Under-17 World Cup with a 2-1 victory over a nine-man Congo on Tuesday.

Jorge Espericueta also scored for Mexico, which won its second match and heads to a Group A finale against the Netherlands already assured of advancing.

In Monterrey, Jamaica lost for the second time in as many games, falling to Argentina 2-1 and slipping to the brink of elimination.

Zhelano Barnes scored Jamaica's first goal in the competition in the 89th.

Espericueta gave Mexico the lead in the 40th minute, but Congo, despite losing Cisse Bassoumba in the 52nd minute for a foul tacke on Arturo Gonzalez, equalized in the 73rd on a goal by Bel Epako.

In the 77th, however, Gildas Mpassi was sent off for a reckless challenge and Mexico capitalized on the two-man advantage eight minutes later when Gomez converted off a cross from Giovani Casillas.

Elsewhere, Jonathan Silva scored in the 23rd minute and Lucas Pugh added added the insurance in the 63rd to pace Argentina over the Reggae Boyz. The result was a recovery for Argentina, which was beaten 3-0 by France, and sends Jamaica to its final game needing a lopsided win against the French on Friday to have any chance of advancing.
