As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

December 23-31

December 23, 1992: For the first time a CONCACAF Cup Winner's Cup encounter was decided on penalty kicks as Guadeloupe's Solidarite Scolaire defeated host P.V.V. of Surinam 5:3 in the shootout following a 1-1 draw in the second-leg of the 1992-1993 Caribbean Zone qualifier in Paramaribo … Solidarite Scolaire and P.V.V. had played to a 2-2 tie in the first-leg a week earlier in Guadeloupe.

December 24, 1993: For a second time in the history of the CONCACAF Cup Winner's Cup, a Caribbean qualifier was determined by penalties as Guadeloupe's Olympique de Moren topped SNL of Surinam 5:4 in the shootout after a scoreless second-leg at the Stade Pierre Monnerville in Morne-a-lÉau … Both sides had also tied the first-leg (0-0) of the 1993-94 tournament series 12 days earlier in Surinam.

December 27, 1953: Mexico posted a 4-0 win over host Haiti in the first FIFA World Cup Qualifying match played in Port-au-Prince since 1934 … Jose Luis Lamadrid scored twice, while Rafael Avalos and Tomás Balcázar had a goal apiece for the Tricolores at the Stade Paul E. Magloire during North American Region qualifying for the 1954 FIFA World Cup in Switzerland.

December 28, 2003: Host San Juan Jabloteh captured the 2003 CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Club Championship after defeating W Connection FC 4:2 on penalties in an all-Trinidad & Tobago finale at Port of Spain's Hasely Crawford Stadium … San Juan Jabloteh had won the first-leg 2-1 on December 17, however, W Connection FC leveled the aggregate (3-3), winning the second encounter by the same 2-1 score … It was the first time penalty kicks determined the Caribbean winner.

December 29, 1979: After playing to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg a week earlier, CD F.A.S. became the third club from El Salvador to capture the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, defeating visiting Jong Colombia of Netherlands Antilles (now Curacao), 7-1, in the return match of the 1979 final at San Salvador's Estadio Cuscatlan … Alcides Cabrera, Roberto Raul Casadei and Alfredo Erazo scored two goals apiece, while Jorge Gonzalez added one.
