As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

Through "This Week in CONCACAF History" you can revisit the region's most memorable people, events and crowning achievements.

November 15-21

November 15, 1992: Mexico hosted its first CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying match (for USA 1994) by defeating Honduras 2-0 at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca … Jose Manuel De La Torre (12th) and Francisco Uribe (62nd) scored for the Tricolores, which had not played a qualifier at home in over a decade (CONCACAF qualifiers for Spain 1982) … Mexico had hosted the World Cup in 1986, but later on was banned from the 1990 tournament due to the federation's suspension by FIFA.

November 16, 1980: For the second time in history, Canada captured a point against host Mexico during CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying (for Spain 1982) playing to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City … After Tricolores took the lead on a Hugo Sanchez's (30th) penalty kick, Gerry Gray (59th) scored the equalizer for the Maple Leafs … The result extended Mexico's World Cup Qualifying unbeaten streak at home to 32 games … The last time the Maple Leafs drew against Tricolores was a 0-0 tie in Toluca during the Confederation's qualification for 1978 FIFA World Cup.

November 17, 2007: Puerto Rico progressed to the 2008 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship after defeating visiting Bermuda 2-1 and winning Group C of the Caribbean Qualification at Bayamon's Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel … Nikadeniz Melendez and Cossette Andujar scored for Boricuas, who had defeated Anguilla four days earlier to open the group … This was also the first time a Puerto Rican squad advances to a CONCACAF Final Round since its Futsal team in 2000.

November 18, 2009: Costa Rica became the first Central American team to earn a draw on South American soil during a FIFA World Cup Qualifying Playoff, as it held host Uruguay to a 1-1 tie in the second-leg of the home-and-away series at Montevideo's Estadio Centenario … Sebastian Abreu (70th) gave La Celestethe lead, but Walter Centeno (74th) scored the equalizer for the Ticos … However, the Ticos were unable to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa as they had lost the first-leg of the series in Costa Rica four days earlier.

November 19, 1989: USA qualified for a FIFA World Cup for the first time in 40 years, defeating host Trinidad & Tobago, 1-0, in the last match of the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament (for Italy 1990) at Port of Spain's Hasely Crawford Stadium … Paul Caligiuri (31st) scored the game-winner for the USA as it finished second with 11 points (4-1-3 record), level with first-place finisher Costa Rica (5-2-1) … The Stars & Stripes lost the tiebreaker on goal difference (+3 to +4) ... both teams qualified for the FIFA World Cup.

November 20, 1999: USA posted a 3-2 victory over Mexico in the first-ever all "CONCACAF" match-up during the quarterfinals of the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Cup at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand … After Hector Vallejeo (2nd) gave the Tricolores the lead, the Stars & Stripes answered with goals from DaMarcus Beasley (38th), Jordan Cila (43rd) and Kyle Beckerman (48th) … Yared Yanez (70th) got one back for Mexico, but the USA held on for the win … The Stars & Stripes went on to finish fourth in the FIFA tournament after losing to Australia and Ghana in the semifinals and third-place match, respectively.

November 21, 2004: Goals by Amy Rodriguez (54th) and Megan Rapinoe (68th) gave defending champion USA a 2-0 win against Australia in the quarterfinals of the 2004 FIFA U-19 (now U-20) Women's World Cup at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiangmai, Thailand … The victory also extended the Stars & Stripes' winning streak to ten-consecutive games at the FIFA tournament … The streak and the chance for another FIFA crown ended three days later as the USA lost to Germany in the semifinals.
