As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

Through "This Week in CONCACAF History" you can revisit the region's most memorable people, events and crowning achievements.

November 1-7

November 1, 1989: Mexico's Pumas UNAM extended its unbeaten streak in CONCACAF club tournaments to 17 games (last defeat was in 1978) holding host CS Herediano of Costa Rica to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg of the Champions' Cup Semifinals at Heredia's Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero … Mario Orta (50th) gave CS Herediano the lead but Pumas UNAM got the equalizer with a goal from Guillermo Vasquez (61st) … After winning the return-leg in Mexico City (5-1), Pumas UNAM went on to defeat Pinar del Rio of Cuba in the 1989 final (played in early 1990) and win a third CONCACAF crown, while extending its unbeaten streak to 20.

November 2, 2009: Roseland Bordella scored a eight times, while Yolande Merone and Ives Laura Jean had five and four goals, respectively, to lead host Haiti to a 24-0 win over the British Virgin Islands in the Group A opener of Caribbean qualification for the 2010 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship at Port-au-Prince's Stade Sylvio Cator … Hayana Jean-Francois added to the record scoring match with three goals, while Sindy Jeline had two goals … Yvrase Gerville and Clorena Rateau closed out the scoring with a goal apiece for the Bicolor.

November 3, 1981: Goals by David Guerrero (35th), Jorge Urquia (40th), Eduardo Laing (64th) and Jose Roberto Figueroa (74th) gave host Honduras a 4-0 win over Haiti in its opening match of the 1981 CONCACAF Campeonato de Naciones (NORCECA) at Tegucigalpa's Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino … The Catrachos went on to finish first in the six-team final round with eight points (3-0-2 record) and capture their first CONCACAF title … Honduras, along with second-place finisher El Salvador, qualified for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.

November 4, 2009: Four goals each from Shanice Monteiht and Ashleigh Shim led the Cayman Islands to a 13-0 win over the British Virgin Islands in Group A encounter of Caribbean qualification for the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti … Shanelle Frederick and Shanice Monteiht scored twice, while Ashani Francis added another for the Cayman Islands in the victory … Despite losing to the host in the group finale, the Cayman Islands advanced to the Caribbean Playoff and then eliminated the Dominican Republic to secure its berth at the CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship for the first time in its history.

November 5, 2010: Goals by Maribel Dominguez and Veronica Raquel Perez gave host Mexico a 2-1 win over the USA in the semifinals of the 2010 CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying tournament at Cancun's Estadio Beto Avila … The victory secured the Tricolores a place in the tournament finals and also qualified them for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany … It was also the first loss by the Stars & Stripes in 20 CONCACAF tournament matches … In the other semifinal in Cancun, Canada topped Costa Rica 4-0 and also qualified for the FIFA Women's World Cup … The Maple Leafs claimed their second CONCACAF title by defeating the Tricolores in the tournament finale three days later.

November 6, 2002: Canada and host USA qualified for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup after defeating Mexico and Costa Rica, respectively, in the semifinals of the 2002 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup at SAFECO Field in Seattle, Washington … Two Mexican own-goals gave Canada a 2-0 victory in the first semifinal, while three goals by Cindy Parlow led the USA to a 7-0 win over Costa Rica … The Stars & Stripes captured their second-consecutive Women's Gold Cup crown by defeating the Maple Leafs in the final three days later.

November 7, 2006: Two goals by Kyriakos Selaidopoulos and another each from Sipho Sibiya and Kyle Yamada gave Canada a 4-0 win over Spain in the Group B finale of the 2006 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup at the Copacabana Beach Soccer Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil … The victory progressed the Maple Leafs out of group play with five points (2-1 record) and they became the first CONCACAF team to reach the tournament's quarterfinals … The run ended two days later for Canada,losing to the host in the quarterfinals.
