As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

Through "This Week in CONCACAF History" you can revisit the region's most memorable people, events and crowning achievements.

October 1-9

October 1, 1999:Goals by Sergio Almaguer, Agustin Delgado and Edgar David Oliva led CID Necaxa of Mexico to a 3-1 win over the USA's D.C. United in the semifinals of the 1999 CONCACAF Champions' Cup at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) … CID Necaxa went on to capture its first CONCACAF crown by defeating LD Alajuelense of Costa Rica two days later in the tournament's finale … The Confederation title also qualified the Rayos to the first FIFA Club World Cup in Brazil the following year.

October 2, 2008: Roen Nelson (56th) scored the only goal of the match for visiting Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago in its 1-0 win over Mexico's Atlante FC during a Group C encounter of the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League at the Estadio Andres Quintana Roo in Cancún … The victory was the first for a Caribbean club on Mexican soil.

October 3, 1971: Host Elizabeth SC became the first USA club since 1963 to earn points against a Mexican team at the CONCACAF Champions' Cup as it held defending champion CD SC Cruz Azul to a scoreless draw in the first-leg of the 1971 North American First Round Qualifying at Farcher's Grove in Union, New Jersey … CD SC Cruz Azul was awarded a 2-0 forfeit victory in the second-leg 10 days later after Elizabeth SC withdrew from the tournament.

October 4, 1992: For the first time in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup history, a four-team single elimination semifinals took place in Mexico (at Queretaro's Estadio Corregidora) … Victor Badilla and Luis Quiros scored for Costa Rica's LD Alajuelense in a 2-1 triumph over Martinique's L'Agilon Du Lamentin in the first semifinal … Meanwhile, two goals by German Martelotto and one each from Luis Roberto Alves, Alejandro Dominiquez, Gonzalo Farfan, Jose Enrique Rodon and Hugo Sanchez led host Club América to a 7-0 win against Surinam's SV Robinhood in the nightcap.

October 5, 1975: Host Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica held Guatemala's CSD Municipal to a 2-2 draw in the first-leg of the Central American Zone Third Round Qualification to the 1975 CONCACAF Champions' Cup at San José's Estadio Nacional … Deportivo Saprissa's two goals were also the most surrendered by defending CONCACAF champion CSD Municipal in a tournament match in the last 15 games … Deportivo Saprissa then eliminated CSD Municipal after winning the second-leg in Guatemala City on penalties 6:5 following a scoreless draw seven days later.

October 6, 2010: For the first time since 1993, Puerto Rico won three consecutive games to capture first-place in a Digicel Caribbean Cup Group (A) after defeating visiting Cayman Islands 2-0 at the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel in Bayamon … Christopher Megaloudis (26th) and Gadiel Figueroa (89th) scored for the Boricuas as they concluded the group with a perfect 3-0-0 record (9 points) that included victories over Anguilla (3-1) and Saint-Martin (2-0) … Puerto Rico progressed to the 2010 Tournament's Second Round, where it was eliminated after losing all three of its encounters.

October 7, 1968: After seeing an increase in National Association membership from 13 to 24 since its formation seven years earlier, CONCACAF hosted its first Extraordinary Congress in Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico) … The event, which ran from October 4-7, was under the chairmanship of newly elected President Joaquin Soria Terrazas of Mexico and featured following members of the CONCACAF Executive Committee: Haiti's Gerard Raoul Rouzier - First Vice President; Hiram Sosa Lopez of Guatemala - Second Vice President; Trinidad & Tobago's Erick James - Third Vice-President; Antonio Carbajal of El Salvador - Fourth Vice-President; Luis Felipe Morúa of Costa Rica - First Exco Member; Jamaica's George Abrahams - Second Exco Member … Former CONCACAF President Ramon Coll Jaumet of Costa Rica became the first member of the FIFA Executive Committee from Central America.

October 8, 1966: After being elected by the CONCACAF Executive Committee during its meeting in San José, Costa Rica two months earlier, Carlos Carrera of Guatemala officially took the position as the first General Secretary in Confederation's offices in Guatemala City … Carrera held the post until 1990.

October 9, 2008: Guatemala suffered a heartbreaking 2:1 loss to Argentina in the last match of the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup Group C at the Gimnasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil … The Chapines were eliminated from the tournament with a 2-2-0 group play record (6 points) … The two Guatemalan victories were the most by a Central American nation at the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
