June 13, 1999: Stern John scored with a minute remaining in the second extra-time period to give host Trinidad & Tobago a 2-1 triumph over Cuba in the 1999 Copa Caribe (now Digicel Caribbean Cup) Final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain … After a scoreless first half, Anthony Rougier gave the Soca Warriors the lead in the 66th minute, but Serguey Prado tied it for the Leones del Caribe with two minutes remaining … The victory gave Trinidad & Tobago its seventh Caribbean title in the 11-year history of the event.June 14, 1970: Jose Gonzalez (13th) gave host Mexico the early lead against Italy during a 1970 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal match at Toluca's Estadio Luis Dosal (now Estadio Nemesio Diez) … However, an own goal from Tricolores' Javier Guzman (25th) and two tallies by Gigi Riva (63rd, 76th) and one by Gianni Rivera (70th) gave the Azzurri the victory … Mexico was the first CONCACAF team in 32 years to advance out of the first round.
June 15, 1974: Emmanuel Sanon's goal at the start of the second half gave Haiti a lead over Italy at the Olympiastadion in Munich, Germany, during a Group 4 game at the 1974 FIFA World Cup … Les Bicolor's advantage lasted a short while as goals from Gianni Rivera (52nd), Romepo Benetti (66th) and Pietro Anastasi (79th) lifted the Azzurri to a 3-1 victory.
June 16, 2001: Goals by Rolando Fonseca and Hernan Medford led visiting Costa Rica to a 2-1 victory over Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, during the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Final Round (for Korea/Japan 2002) … The victory was the first by a CONCACAF team in a World Cup qualifying match over the Tricolor on Mexican soil, ending a 48-game unbeaten streak.
June 17, 2002: For the first time, two CONCACAF teams faced-off in the 'Round-of-16' at a FIFA World Cup (Korea/Japan 2002) as goals by Brian McBride (8th) and Landon Donovan (65th) gave the USA a 2-0 win over Mexico at Jeonju World Cup Stadium in Jeonju, Korea Republic.
June 18, 1994: The first indoor FIFA World Cup match took place at Detroit's Pontiac Silverdome, when the USA and Switzerland played to a 1:1 draw in the opening Group A match (for USA 1994) … A crowd of 73,425 saw Georges Bregy (39th) give the Swiss the lead, but Eric Wynalda (44th) scored the equalizer for the Stars & Stripes.
June 19, 1999: Goals by Mia Hamm (17th), Julie Foudy (73rd) and Kristine Lilly (89th) gave host USA a 3-0 win over Denmark to open the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey … The crowd of 78,972 was the largest to see an opening FIFA Women's World Cup match
