As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

June 1-5

June 1, 2009: For the second time in history, the Bahamas hosted a CONCACAF Congress as the 26th edition of the Ordinary Congress took place at the Paradise Island Hotel … The Bahamas also hosed the FIFA Congress for the first time June 2-3 … Under the chairmanship of President Jack Warner of Trinidad & Tobago, 38 delegates from the CONCACAF-affiliated national associations attended the CONCACAF Congress which had the following elections: Jack Warner - FIFA Vice-President & FIFA Exco Member - Caribbean Zone; Chuck Blazer of USA, FIFA Exco Member - North American Zone; Honduras' Alfredo Hawit, CONCACAF Vice-President - Central American Zone; Sunil Gulati of USA, Executive Committee Member - North American Zone; and Jamaica's Horace Burrell, Executive Committee Member - Caribbean Zone … Also, the CONCACAF Hall of Fame increased its membership with the inductions Jamaica's Anthony James, Julio Rocha of Nicaragua and the USA's Clive Toye into the Class of 2009.

June 2, 1983: Host Mexico opened the 1983 FIFA U-20 World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Australia in front of 108,900 spectators at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca … Marcelino Bernal gave the Tricolor the lead (16th), however Frank Farina tied it for the Socceroos with 17 minutes remaining as it was the first time the FIFA U-20 World Cup was held in the CONCACAF region.

June 3, 2001: Goals by Mario Acevedo, Freddy Garcia and Dwight Pezzarossi led Guatemala to a 3-1 win over Panama at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to capture its first Copa de Naciones UNCAF (now Copa Centroamericana) title … The Chapines finished atop the final group with seven points (2-0-1 record), while Costa Rica (1-1-1, 4 points) took second, El Salvador (0-0-3, 3 points) third and Panama (0-2-1, 1 point) fourth.

June 4, 2004: The USA and host Canada qualified for the 2004 FIFA Women's U-19 (now Under-20) World Cup in Thailand after defeating Mexico and Costa Rica, respectively, in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Championship at the Stade Molson in Montreal, Quebec … Angela Woznuk scored three times, Kerri Hanks had two goals and Stephanie Kron added another for the Stars & Stripes in the 6-0 win over the Tricolores, while Aysha Jamani, Veronique Maranda, Brittany Timko and Emily Zurrer had a goal apiece for the Maple Leafs in the 4-0 victory against the TicasCanada would then defeat the USA, 2:1, two days later in Ottawa, Ontario, to win its first CONCACAF U-19 title.

June 5, 1991: Honduras' Real CD España began the Central American Zone Second Round of the 1991 CONCACAF Champions' Cup with a first-leg 1-0 win over the host Alianza FC of El Salvador in San Salvador … After 1-1 second-leg draw in San Pedro Sula and winning the series 2:1 on aggregate, Real CD España went on to defeat Costa Rican sides LD Alajuelense and Deportivo Saprissa to reach the Champions' Cup Semifinals, but was eliminated by Trinidad & Tobago's Police FC.
