April 1-9
April 1, 2008: After eliminating Honduras' CD Motagua in the quarterfinals the month before, Pachuca CF of Mexico got two goals from Luis Montes (62nd, 80th) to defeat visiting D.C. United of USA, 2-0, in the first-leg of the 2008 CONCACAF Champions' Cup Semifinals at Pachuca's Estadio Miguel Hidalgo … D.C. United won the second-leg eight days later, 2-1, in Washington, D.C. but the Tuzos still claimed the series 3-2 on aggregate … Pachuca CF went on to capture the last edition of the Champions' Cup by holding Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg (April 23) and then winning the return match 2-1 (April 30).
April 2, 1976: The Dominican Republic played its first CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying match (for FIFA World Cup Argentina 1978) and lost 3-0 to visiting Haiti in the first-leg of the Caribbean Preliminary Round at Santo Domingo's Estadio Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte … Arsene Auguste (2nd), Pierre Bayonne (29th) and Ernest Jean-Marie Baptiste (32nd) all scored for Les Bicolor who would also won the second-leg by the same score in Port-au-Prince 15 days later.
April 3, 1992: Sint Maarten played its first international match since its formation as an association in 1986, losing 4-2 to visiting Cayman Islands in Phillipsburg during the First Round Group 2 of the 1992 Shell Caribbean Cup (now Digicel Caribbean Cup) … Two days later, Sint Maarten held the eventual group winner Martinique to a 1-1 draw.
April 4, 1996: Tecos UAG of Mexico captured the 1995-96 CONCACAF Cup Winners Cup after defeating El Salvador's CD Luis Angel Firpo, 2-1, in the final at the Santa Ana Bowl in Santa Ana, California (USA) … Felipe Del Angel Malibran (24th) gave Tecos the lead, but Geovani Trigueros tied it for Luis Angel Firpo 10 minutes later … Agustin Garcia then scored the game-winner for the Tecos with two minutes remaining.
April 5, 1992: After posting an historic win (2-1) over Mexico in Mexico City 11 days earlier, the USA earned its second consecutive victory at 1992 CONCACAF Men's Under-23 Olympic Qualifying Tournament by defeating visiting Honduras, 4-3, at the St. Louis Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri … Steve Snow led the offense with a hat-trick (three goals), while Yari Allnut added another for the Stars & Stripes … The USA would then win three of its final four matches to finish atop the final group standings with 10 points (5-1-0 record), while securing a berth, along with runner-up Mexico (3-2-1, 7 points), to the Olympic Football Tournament in Barcelona, Spain.
April 6, 2008: Host Trinidad & Tobago captured its second consecutive CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Futsal Tournament title by topping Haiti, 6-3, in the 2008 Final at the Centre of Excellence's Canedo Hall in Macoya … Colin Joseph had two goals, while Brent Antoine, Jerwyn Balthazar, Colin Joseph, Sterlin O'Brien and Kevin Peters added one apiece for the Soca Warriors, who prior to the final had claimed the Group A title with a 2-0-0 record ... The Les Bicolor had done the same in Group B, which allowed both teams to progress to the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
April 7, 1963: Costa Rica won the inaugural CONCACAF Campeonato de Naciones (Norceca) after defeating Honduras, 2-1, at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador, El Salvador to conclude the 1963 final round … After Teodoro Luis Cruz gave the Catrachos the lead (49th), the Ticos got consecutive tallies from Enrique Cordoba (52nd) and Ruben Jimenez (59th) to finish atop of the group with a perfect record of 3-0-0 (6 points), which also included the Netherlands Antilles and the host.
April 8, 1981: After winning the first-leg 3-1 a month earlier in Mexico City, Pumas UNAM of Mexico suffered a 3-1 loss to Uruguay's Club Nacional in the return match of the 1980 Copa Interamericana (played in 1981) at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo … With the aggregate tied (4:4) a third encounter took place a month later at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (USA) with Pumas UNAM earning a 2-1 victory.
April 9.2003: After eliminating Trinidad & Tobago's W Connection FC in the 'Round-of-16', CD Toluca of Mexico opened the 2003 CONCACAF Champions' Cup Quarterfinals with a 2-1 first-leg win over host CSD Municipal of Guatemala at the Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City … Jose Santurino Cardozo (9th) and Miguel Almazan (84th) scored for CD Toluca, while Mario Acevedo (41st) had the only goal for CSD Municipal … Seven days later, the Diablos Rojos won the series after a 2-1 triumph in Toluca … CD Toluca went on to defeat the Mexican sides Club América and CA Monarcas Morelia in the semifinals and final, respectively, to claim its first Champions' Cup since 1968
