As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

March 1-5

March 1, 2007: For the third time in the 45-year history of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup, two clubs from the USA advanced to the semifinals as D.C. United and Houston Dynamo eliminated CD Olimpia of Honduras and Costa Rica's Puntarenas FC, respectively, in the 2007 quarterfinals … Two goals by Luciano Emilo and another from Christian Gomez gave the host D.C. United a 3-2 victory in the second-leg at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. to claim the home-and-away series 7-3 on aggregate … Meanwhile, at the Aggie Soccer Complex in College Station, Texas (USA), Paul Dalgish and Kelly Gray each scored for the Dynamo in a 2-0 blanking of visiting Puntarenas,winning the series 2-1 (on aggregate) … Both USA clubs were then eliminated in the semifinals by Mexican sides CD Guadalajara and Pachuca CF, respectively.

March 2, 1967: After six years as a Confederation, CONCACAF hosted its first Ordinary Congress at the Hotel Lincoln in Tegucigalpa, Honduras … Under the chairmanship of President Ramon Coll Jaumet (of Costa Rica), delegates from 11 National Associations attended the two-day event, which was highlighted by the additions of federations from Bermuda and Barbados as full members of CONCACAF.

March 3, 1957: Costa Rica posted its first shutout victory in North American World Cup Qualifying defeating visiting Netherlands Antilles, 4-0, in Group 1 play at the Estadio Nacional in San José … Rodolfo Herrera and Alvaro Murillo had two goals each for the Ticos, who earned their third-consecutive win in qualifying (for FIFA World Cup Sweden 1958).

March 4, 1934: Dionisio Mejia became the first player to net a hat-trick (three goals) in a FIFA World Cup Qualifying game for the North American region as he led host Mexico to a 3-2 win over Cuba in the first of three second round matches (for FIFA World Cup Italy 1934) at the Parque Necaxa in Mexico City … Mejia once again scored three times for the Tricolor as it defeated the Leones del Caribe, 5-0, in the second encounter seven days later at the same venue … Mexico completed the three-game series sweep on March 18 with a 4-1 triumph at Mexico City's Parque España.

March 5, 2001: Jamaica booked a place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup (Argentina 2001) for a first time after playing host Canada to a scoreless Group A draw in the CONCACAF Final Round at Centennial Stadium in Victoria, British Columbia … The result gave the Reggae Boyz five points and second-place in the four-team group (which included Honduras and Mexico) that was won by the Maple Leafs
